The U.S. Green Building Council-Georgia (USGBC-GA) Chapter was formed in January 2009 when the Atlanta Regional Chapter and the Savannah Regional Chapter decided to merge into a statewide organization. At that time, Atlanta and Savannah became Branches of the Chapter and Organizing Branches were formed in Augusta, Central Georgia, and Columbus.

At the beginning of 2010, both Augusta and Central Georgia were recognized as full Branches of the Chapter and Athens joined Columbus as an Organizing Branch.

Today, the U.S. Green Building Council-Georgia Chapter operates Branches in the Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Central Georgia (Macon area) and Savannah territories and has an Organizing Branch in Columbus.
Each Branch has a Leadership Group that is elected from the Chapter membership; and each Branch sends representation to the USGBC-GA Chapter Board of Directors.
