Program Manager
Position Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Salary: $45,000 to $55,000, plus benefits, commensurate with experience
The USGBC Georgia Chapter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to integrating sound business practices and environmentally responsible design, development and construction throughout the State of Georgia. USGBC-Georgia members also work to influence public policy and educate business leaders on the economics of green buildings and sustainable development. The Georgia Chapter includes five active Branches in Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Central GA and Savannah and is actively working with other Georgia communities to grow the Branch network. The Chapter is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by the Executive Director.USGBC-Georgia’s High Performance Healthy School’s (HPHS) program is well-recognized, accepted, and respected around the state. Building on the success of this approach, the USGBC-Georgia Chapter’s long-term vision is the creation of a High Performance Healthy Georgia. Through this approach, the Chapter seeks to address a multitude of topics, all joined by the “High Performance Healthy” tagline – whether it be schools, homes, neighborhoods, existing buildings, etc. The development of this overall campaign will signal a transition for the organization from one-time programming to ongoing initiatives to transform the built environment.
Position Summary:
The High Performance, Healthy Georgia Program Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to develop, manage, and implement the High Performance Healthy Georgia Program. This Program consists of three main topic areas: Schools, Advocacy, and Existing Buildings/Homes, although additional areas may be added with the growth of the Program. Currently, the Schools program is the most established, but Chapter is looking to strategically organize and grow the advocacy and existing buildings/homes programs as part of the High Performance, Healthy Georgia initiative.Job Description:
As the Program Manager, this position will require strategic planning, creativity, and a high level of organization. Highly developed social skills are also desired, including a high degree of comfort with frequent (often last minute) public presentations and constant networking. The Program Manager will work largely independently, with the support of committees and volunteers, and will collaborate with and report to the Executive Director. Some travel required. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:High Performance, Healthy Schools (HPHS) Program
• Assessment of current HPHS program, including recommendations for modifications. Current initiatives include the annual HPHS Summit, CEFGA Expo/Green YOUR Schools Competition, and participation in the Green Ribbons Schools program.
• Management of all initiatives under the HPHS program, including the development of a “playbook” for each. Identify new initiatives and opportunities as appropriate.
• Organize and manage the annual HPHS Summit.
• Serve as primary point of contact for the HPHS Program for school districts across Georgia.Develop the High Performance Healthy Georgia Program
• Working with the Advocacy Committee, develop the priorities and strategies for creating an effective advocacy campaign for the Chapter.
• Support Branches with local initiatives.
• With Chapter growth, continue development of the HPHGa Program to include additional topic areas.
• Identify new initiatives and opportunities as appropriate.Education events (LEED workshops, Lunch & Learns, etc.)
• Work with Education committee to establish calendar of events, arrange venues, advertise events, manage registration and payment, coordinate speakers, submittal of continuing education documentation, and other logisticsMembership activities
• Work with Membership Committee to recruit and retain Chapter Members and organize member events
• Assisting members with logistics, such as newsletter registration, resolving problems with on-line sign-up, renewal or access
• Maintenance of membership database, including tracking of membership (lapsed, new, renewals)
• Manage communication and outreach through ConstantContact, including monthly emails and special announcementsJob Requirements / Preferred Qualifications:
Requirements:
• Fully committed to and engaged in environmental and social issues and a passion to promote green building and further the Chapter's mission.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• US citizenship required.
• Strong communication skills including writing, preparing presentations and public speaking.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork, collegiality and self-motivation are necessary for success; positive attitude is paramount;
• Ability to work as a self-starter, with initiative, while also being able to work as part of a team – flexibility is important;
• Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of initiatives simultaneously, promote a spirit of teamwork, and work with a diverse range of constituencies;
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically;
• Strong organizational and planning skills; and
• Strong computer skills and knowledge of data base programs.Preferred Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree or higher in business, education, public policy, or environmental science/sustainability is preferred. Other, relevant degrees will be considered.
• Experience with project management & implementation, 5+ years preferred.
• Past residency and/or work in Georgia.

At the 2011 CEFGA Career Expo and SkillsUSA Competition on March 18th, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle announced his support of the USGBC-Georgia 'High Performance, Healthy Schools' Program during a press conference held on the Expo floor. The Lt. Governor also kicked off the announcement of the 'Green YOUR School' Competition for High School, Career Academy and Technical College student teams. This brand new Georgia-bred SkillsUSA Competition will launch at the 2012 CEFGA Career Expo & SkillsUSA Competition.
“In these challenging times, school systems across the state are embracing innovative ideas to reduce costs and focus resources on the classrooms where students learn,” said Lt. Governor Cagle, “I’m proud to launch the Green YOUR School contest to provide Georgia schools with groundbreaking tools to reduce their energy costs. This will allow us to redirect precious financial resources towards direct instruction, will create a healthier learning environment for our children, and will give our students career-relevant, first-hand experience in one of our state’s emerging industries.”
